Giant sand vase

An ancient silhouette, carried into the present. This vase follows the classical amphora line, narrow at the foot, swelling through the body, drawing in again at the neck.  

Thrown by hand, the form has the slight lean and softness that only a wheel and a pair of hands can give it. The pearls catch the light against the glaze, a quiet nod to the vessels that once carried oil and wine across the Mediterranean, reimagined as something to hold a few stems or nothing at all.

During the high firing, tiny potash-rich crystals have emerged through the surface of this piece, creating delicate, unexpected formations that catch the light and reveal themselves slowly.

It stands well alone on a mantel or table, and just as well beside other pieces, the shape is familiar enough to belong anywhere, the detail unusual enough to be noticed.

Each vase is individually made; expect small variations in form, glaze and pearl placement. Handmade in small batches.
